Mshomoroni Slum Life

Experiencing the real life of a Kenyan challenges your way of thinking a lot, especially as a German. There are a lot of things I’ll never be able to understand.

Why do people mismanage their little money they gain. I’m wondering what are their priorities in life and what is important to them. It’s a parallel world they live in, on TV they see the westernized upscale life, but their own reality is far away from living in this comfort. Sometimes it seems like, people love to suffer so they don’t need to make the effort to work harder as they need to survive. Most people see themselves as victims, but I think that’s the wrong way to look at it, also to feel pity for yourself. Every person has a past and carries the weight of it, but it’s a choice how you look at it and if you want to change it or rather like to suffer.

No matter who you talk to, money never can be enough. I believe the solutions lays somewhere else. Someone worked hard for their wealth, rather it was you or your ancestors in the past. No money ever fell from the sky, we all need to get up and earn it.
